How it behaves
It lands when the account is created, and only once
The grant is written the moment the account record is created. You do not redeem it or switch it on. It is attached to your own account, not to a workspace, so switching workspaces does not give you a second one. The grant is only ever attempted at that one moment, and it is skipped if the account already carries a credit entry with an expiry date on it. In practice that means an existing account never picks one up later: not after you cancel a plan, not after you create another workspace. Signing up by booking a call through the free scheduling tool is the one exception to the timing. That step deliberately leaves the grant unwritten. You get it the first time you sign in to the full app afterwards, and the 14 days start from that sign-in, not from the booking. It is a credit entry, not a subscription
The grant writes two entries against the account, one for credits and one for recipients, both stamped with the same 14-day window. The credits entry is what a new account’s whole credit allowance is made of; the recipients entry adds 100 on top of the recipient allowance every account already has without a plan. No subscription is created, so nothing about the grant is a billing state you can pause, extend or cancel. Subscribing to a plan does not move the expiry date either. The two entries run out on their own schedule regardless of what you do.Why your plan still reads “Free plan”
With no plan and no lifetime licence on the account, the plan name shown around the app (in the header’s credits panel, in subscription settings) is derived from your credit allowance: a small allowance reads as Free plan, and a large or unlimited one reads as Custom plan. Fifty credits is well under the threshold, so for the whole 14 days your plan name reads Free plan: the same label an account with nothing left at all would show. The credits panel, not the plan name, is what tells you whether you are mid-trial or genuinely out. What the chip counts, and what makes it disappear
The chip needs two things at once: no live subscription on the account, and a credit allowance above zero. It is not a static badge. The number it shows is your allowance minus what you have spent this period, floored at zero, so it counts down as you work. Spending everything does not remove it: at that point it reads “You’re on a free trial — 0 credits left”, and every credit-consuming action starts raising the upgrade prompt instead. Only two things actually take the chip away. A live subscription appears, or the allowance itself reaches zero, which is what day 14 does.Day 14 is a cliff, not a taper
Your credit allowance is not a number sitting somewhere being decremented. It is recalculated by summing every credit entry on the account that is valid right now (valid meaning today falls inside that entry’s own window), and then adding whatever a plan grants on top. The result is cached for a few minutes rather than recomputed on every request. The welcome grant’s two entries are valid for 14 days. Once that window has passed, the next recalculation simply leaves them out. There is no partial decay: one calculation includes the grant, and the next one does not. Nothing announces that moment. There is no reminder email, no in-app banner counting the days down and no warning on the chip beforehand: the expiry is a timestamp a calculation checks, not an event anything schedules or sends. The only customer-facing sign is the allowance itself changing. For an account with no plan, that recalculation takes the credit allowance to zero, because an account without a subscription is granted no credits of its own. A zero allowance is what locks the app: the plan screen replaces whatever page you asked for, though the workspace picker and your account and workspace settings stay reachable so you can still fix billing. See “Subscription Required” and the locked plan screen for exactly which pages stay open.Limits
