Read access to Email Accounts
read-senders. Admin, Member and Viewer have it by default. To create or change
create-senders to add one, update-senders to change one, on top of the permission above. If you cannot find this in your sidebar, your workspace may have a custom menu configuration. Contact support and we will check it for you.
Before you begin
- You can sign in to this mailbox yourself. Create the app password while signed in to the exact mailbox you are connecting, not to another account you also own.
- Somewhere to paste the code the moment it appears. Most providers show an app password once and never again.
- If two-factor authentication is on for that Zoho account, the ordinary account password will not pass verification here. The app password is the only credential that works.
Connect the mailbox
1
Open the provider list
Go to and choose
Add senders. On the panel, choose Connect your email, whose button reads
Connect.Gmail and Outlook lead as their own cards. Everything else sits in the All providers
grid below them, in alphabetical order, which puts Zoho last. Choose it.
2
Create an app password in Zoho
The wizard opens on Get ready: create an app password, which explains what one is: a
separate code, generated in your Zoho security settings, that lets us send without ever
knowing your real password. Create it there and copy it straight away.Back on the wizard, choose I have my app password.
3
Enter your account details
On the Your account screen, put the mailbox address in Email address and the name
recipients should see in Sender name. The name on your own account is used there by
default, so change it only if you want something else. Choose Continue.
4
Paste the app password and verify
Paste the code into App password. The helper under the field says the same thing: the
app password you just created, not your regular Zoho password.Under the field, the wizard prints the sending server it is about to use: host, port and
security type, next to an Edit link. Edit adds a Server settings step where
you can change the sending and receiving servers by hand. Left alone, Zoho’s own values
are used:
smtp.zoho.com for sending and imap.zoho.com for reading replies, both over
SSL.Choose Verify connection. We open a real connection to Zoho for both sending and
receiving, because a mailbox that can send but not receive would never see a reply. What happens next
A confirmation panel reads “Your email is connected” with the mailbox address under it.
Choose Done, and the mailbox is on the Email Accounts page.
Troubleshooting
That password didn't work
That password didn't work
Zoho rejected this address and password together, so check both. Choose
Re-enter password to go back to the field. Nothing you typed is lost.A partly copied app password fails exactly like a wrong one, and so does one created
while signed in to a different account. If you are unsure which you pasted, generate a
fresh app password in Zoho and use that.
We couldn't read this inbox (IMAP)
We couldn't read this inbox (IMAP)
Sending only works when we can also read replies, and IMAP access looks turned off for
this mailbox. The screen walks you through it: open your Zoho mailbox settings, find the
IMAP section (sometimes labelled “external access”) and turn it on, then come back and
choose Try again.
The mailbox connected, but nothing is sending
The mailbox connected, but nothing is sending
A connected mailbox is not the same as a sending one. Check the schedule first, since an
account connected this way starts without one. After that the usual causes are an agent
whose outreach is still paused and a new mailbox whose daily limit is still zero. Work
through No sending channel connected, which goes
over them in the order worth checking.
