A tracker counts every visit it records, and nothing caps that. Creating a company you did not already have out of one of those visits is the metered part, and identified-company capacity is the meter.

Capacity never arrives with a plan. It is bought as tracking capacity on top of whichever plan you are on, and a workspace that has not bought any starts at zero, which is a working state rather than a broken one: the tracker still counts visits, and it still recognizes a visitor whose domain matches a company already in your leads. What it cannot do is add a company that was not there before.

How it behaves

The stats row and the two charts never look at capacity

Today, Last 7 Days, All Time and Active Trackers count exactly what their names say: visits, or trackers whose switch is on, with no filter for what became of a visit afterwards. A visit that was turned away for lack of capacity still counts in all three visit tiles. So does one that resolved to nothing, and one from a country your tracker’s filter excludes. The Daily Visitors chart underneath is the same count again, plotted a day at a time across the last seven, with the same lack of any filter. The Visitor Geography map and the Top Countries list beside it add one condition and only one: we have to have placed the visit in a country. Everything we placed is on the map, whatever happened to the company behind it, and everything we could not is on neither, which is why the country totals can add up to less than All Time.

”Identified Companies” counts something stricter

The fifth tile is the exception, and so is the Cos. counter on each tracker’s card. Both count distinct companies that meet two conditions at once: the tracker created them, and their analysis has finished. A company that already existed in your leads before the tracker matched a visit to it meets neither, so it never appears in this number, however often it comes back. This tile also means two different things depending on whether the workspace has capacity. With none, it is a lifetime count with no monthly boundary. The moment capacity is active, the same tile switches to a spent of allowed fraction for the current billing period instead. They can look similar and still be counting different things over different windows, which is worth knowing before you compare one to the other.

The monthly capacity meter

Above the stats row, and only once you have at least one tracker, sits a card carrying a Monthly usage fraction, a progress fill, and a sentence naming how many companies are left. The spent side is this workspace’s own usage; the allowance comes from the subscription the account owner holds, so switching workspaces changes the numerator without necessarily changing the denominator. The color runs from your workspace’s usual accent to amber as the fraction climbs, and to red at the cap, where the sentence changes to say new visitor companies will not be created and a Limit reached label appears next to the title. Upgrade Capacity, or Upgrade Now once you are at the cap, needs update-subscriptions, which Admin holds by default and Member and Viewer do not. Without it the button is not disabled, it is absent: everyone still reads the same bar, with nothing underneath it.

What happens when you run out of room

Each tracker’s card carries its own version of the warning, in three situations only. With no capacity at all it reads Visits Only Mode. Close to the cap it reads Capacity Running Low. At the cap it reads Company Identification Paused, and says plainly that visit counting continues but new companies will not be revealed until you upgrade. With capacity in hand and comfortably under it, there is no banner on the card at all. Each of the three carries its own button, Get Company Tracking, then Upgrade Capacity, then Upgrade Now, and like the bar above, the button is there only for a role that holds update-subscriptions. The banner text itself is shown to everyone.
Visits Only Mode is worded more broadly than what actually stops. A tracker with no capacity still matches a visit to a company already in your leads, still records it against that company, and still notifies you. What it cannot do is create a company you did not already have.

The capacity check runs at exactly one moment

Nothing about the cap interrupts you. There is no popup and no blocked screen, because the decision is made on the server, in a background job, with no screen attached to it. By then several things have already happened, and every one of them can end the visit before capacity is ever consulted. An inactive tracker stops it. A country outside the tracker’s filter stops it. So does a visitor we cannot resolve to any company domain at all. So does a self visit: if the domain behind the visitor is the tracker’s own domain, or any domain on your workspace’s own website links, the visit is recorded and dropped as your own team browsing your own site. What survives all of that is checked against one thing: does the resolved domain match a company you already have. If it does, the visit is linked to that company, and capacity is not consulted at all, no matter how full it is. Only a domain with no match reaches the capacity check, and only that can be turned away. Either way a visit resolves, an in-app notification goes up for everyone in the workspace who has not switched that type off. For a company you already had it names that company, and the person, if you had already sent someone there a message. For a brand-new one it names the domain, because that is all we know until analysis fills in the real name. See The notification center for where these land and how to switch them off.

A newly identified company says so on its own page

A company a tracker created carries a small Discovered via Website Tracking card on its own page, naming the Tracked Domain and the tracker that found it. A company you already had does not get this card, even once its visits start showing up in that tracker’s numbers, because that link is only ever written when the company is created.

Buying more capacity

Upgrade Capacity and Upgrade Now, wherever either appears, open the same picker: a handful of tiers, each a fixed number of companies a month, with your current one marked Current and unselectable. Capacity rides on the same subscription as the rest of your plan rather than a separate one, and it is billed on that subscription’s own cycle, so a yearly subscription buys capacity yearly. Confirming applies immediately, with no refresh and no separate checkout page. A workspace with no card on file is asked for one first, then completes the same purchase.
